To jump or not to jump... JUST DO IT!

There are two different kinds of people in this world. Those who cannonball into the water without testing it first and those who have to put their big toe in first and then their foot, slowly followed by the rest of their body. I'd like to think this reflects who you are as a person, but I suppose that's not necessarily the case. For me though, it holds true. I'm proud to say I am a mix of these two kinds of people, but the older I get the more I tend to find myself more closely linked with the latter. Google can really become you're best friend when you have to research every little thing you do before you do it. I was actually told the other day by my father-in-law, "Emily, you really have to stop reading so much." Now obviously he didn't mean that I should stop reading all together, but more or less to let me know that sometimes too much reading about things that don't really matter, can be a hindrance. Sometimes you just have to fly by the seat of your pants or you end up not flying at all.

Now obviously, I don't want to go around living my life throwing all caution to the wind, but occasionally I think it would do some good. My mother has been telling me since Walter was born to stop reading so many mothering books and websites because it keeps you from enjoying your little one to the fullest. My husband and I bought our first home 2 years ago and I have yet to really decorate and paint. It's not because I haven't had a million and one ideas, it's because whenever I come up with something I'm just not sure I like it enough. Well so what if it doesn't turn out how I thought? Another coat of paint can fix it in no time. I like to know exactly what our plans for an evening include, such as, where we are going, what we're doing, who we are doing it with, what time, what we'll do it if doesn't turn out how we wanted it to, etc. Not that these are bad traits per say, but they do keep me from enjoying things fully and living in the moment. So as a promise to myself, I am going to start trying to not plan, re-plan, and review everything before I do it.
